Paul Byett LLB (Hons) ACA
Managing Partner
Paul initially trained as a solicitor before moving into a Big Four accountancy firm to train in Cardiff. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Paul was involved in many corporate finance deals. This corporate finance experience included developing a niche in buying US companies for UK Holding Companies. Paul then spent two years in London specialising in the field of financial services, mixing his audit and corporate finance experience with involvement in the RBS acquisition of the Natwest bank and the Deloitte acquisition of the UK Andersen business.
Paul Joined UHY Peacheys in 2003 to head up the corporate services team to include corporate finance and the audit function. As well as leading delivery of compliance services (audit, accountancy and management accounts) he also has a proven track record in the delivery of business advisory services in the following areas:
- Business Planning
- Financial Modelling
- Grant Applications
- Corporate Finance Lead Advisory Work
- Due Diligence Reporting
- Strategic Planning
Paul has assisted many businesses to achieve their objectives through corporate acquisitions and disposals.
When Paul does have time out of work he is a very active board member of LATCH, the Welsh Children’s Cancer charity and is heavily involved with the strategic input into Newport County football club.

Steve Theaker FCA CTA
Senior Partner
Steve joined UHY Peacheys in 1995 from KPMG, Cardiff and became a partner in 1998. He is the Senior Tax Partner at UHY Peacheys and in charge of the Abergavenny office. Steve is an all round tax expert but specialises in Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and Business Tax mitigation. Steve is a member of the ICAEW and CIOT.
Outside of work Steve is the treasurer for the M4 Business Network and Abergavenny Chamber of Trade, and a board member of Newport & Gwent Enterprise. He is an avid cyclist having cycled in recent years for various charities across Spain, France, Ireland and from Lands End to John O’Groats, raising tens of thousands of pounds. Steve is also a member of the Abergavenny Acoustic Club and has quite a reputation in the Newport & Abergavenny areas for performing at seminars and breakfasts hopefully proving that not all accountants are the same.

Gareth Francis FCCA
Audit Partner
Gareth joined UHY Peacheys in July 2007 having qualified in 1998 with a leading international firm based in Cardiff. His experience has been gained through a range of assignments, both locally and internationally. In addition to dealing with a portfolio of both large and small corporate clients within the practice, he also manages a portfolio of the firm’s professional partnerships.
Gareth will lead the delivery of audit and tax compliance services and co-ordinate this work with you, ensuring all work is technically correct and of a consistently high quality.
He will provide input into strategy if required and provide advice on changes in company legislation and technical issues of an accounting nature.
His experience has been gained through a range of assignments, both locally and internationally, in the Recruitment Consultancy, Information Technology, Engineering, Chemical, Construction and Manufacturing sectors.
In his spare time Gareth is a keen golfer with a very good handicap.

Steve Sulley
Marketing Partner
Steve, has nearly 20 years experience in the field of sales & marketing. He started his career in 1991 after graduating from the University of Reading, as sales Executive, for International Thomson Business Publishing in London, a magazine publisher.
This was followed by a research role at Nielsen Market Research, and a three year spell in the public sector, in the Marketing Manager’s role at Gwent Training & Enterprise Council. He then moved back to publishing by joining United Provincial Newspapers, Southern Newspapers, Newscom and finally Newsquest .Here he was responsible for a portfolio of 38 regional newspapers and the associated digital platforms.
Steve is experienced in developing marketing strategy, running sales operations and implementing business development programmes, and does this for both UHY Peacheys and our clients.
