The “Management of Time” MythTime cannot and will not change – but you can. However organized a person believes they are, and whatever they set out to achieve in a day, that day will only consist of 24 hours - an indisputable and unalterable fact. In reality, time may be unmanageable, but we can manage ourselves to make more efficient use of it. Track your day and identify exactly where your time goes – keep a record of a sample number of days, and look at how you can improve your planning and eliminate or cut down on unproductive activities. Change your behavior, and set specific goals and monitor them to measure whether you are achieving them. Prioritize tasks for the day, and set a performance benchmark. From these tasks really examine those that you know are essential to achieve, and those that aren’t - are you the right person to be doing them in the first place? Allow others to bear the burden – what can you delegate or outsource so that you are making the most effective use of your time? It is impossible to avoid being kept waiting for something in your day – always take a task with you to avoid empty, wasted time – whether it is reading a report or planning a business activity. Whilst it is inevitable that there will be events that will need immediate attention taking priority over your planned tasks, establishing and keeping to a routine will allow you to become more productive. |
