Don’t Tip The Balance...Do you have the time to do what has to be done? What about finding the time for the things that you would like to do? Juggling demands has become part of everyday life for everyone…… Consider setting some goals that are achievable in the shorter term, rather than long term, thereby reaching certain objectives more quickly. Even if the goals are smaller you will be creating positive feelings of well being, rather than those of pressure. Work life is work life, and home life is home life. Separate the two so that work doesn’t encroach on your personal “recharging your batteries” time. Look at how you feel NOW. Identify worry and anxiety triggers, and contemplate strategies to overcome and use them to best advantage. Worrying can’t always change an outcome, but how you deal with the anxiety can change the way that you approach, cope and deal with a situation. Support is always there. It’s the request for help that is the difficult part. If you are “off balance” at work or home ask for help, whether it’s from your employees, employer, colleagues, family, friends…. make sure that they know that you will do the same for them. Learn to say “NO”. Is it the fear of other peoples’ perception of you, or what you will feel about yourself, that prevents you from doing this? What is the worst thing that can happen if you are unable to do something? Consider the direst outcome, and then understand what you are able to realistically achieve. Everyone is accessible all of the time – e-mails, phones – landline and mobiles, pressure created by technology. Decide a time when you turn it all off. Just short periods each day can make a huge difference. Set times for calls, and ensure that your “call free zone time” remains just that. |
