There are many marketing and sales strategies, including expensive advertising campaigns, exhibitions, telesales, but businesses often miss out on the biggest opportunity right in front of them - their existing customer base. Word of mouth marketing is the cheapest, one of the most effective and positive ways of increasing business. How many times have you had a customer or client compliment you on a product, or service? This is a golden opportunity to say "It's been really great working with you too - perhaps you know of someone else who would benefit from this sort of service/product?" To make it easier develop a standard script, ending questions in a way that a client or customer is encouraged to answer positively when asked for introductions. And don't just ask once - record on a database or tracking system the results of the referral requests, and decide the regularity with which you are going to contact the referral sources. How many potential new customers/clients do your own team know? Are they aware that you are looking for new work? Involve everyone and the results will speak for themselves. |
